Automated & Electric Garage Doors.

Automated garage doors use an electric operator with a remote, app or wall button to open and close without manual lifting. We can supply a motor with a new sectional, roller or up-and-over door, automate an existing up-and-over, or replace and upgrade the motor on an existing sectional or roller. Side-hinged pairs can be motorised too, at around £800 depending on the gear the opening needs. Modern operators use rolling-code encryption and integrate with smart home systems. Wolverine fits Hörmann SupraMatic, LiftMaster and Somfy operators across the Thames Valley.

The detail

Automated & Electric Garage Doors, properly explained.

What does an electric garage door cost?

An insulated electric roller typically costs £1,800 to £3,200 fitted, and an automated insulated sectional starts from around £2,600 — our sectionals start at £2,000 and operators at £605 supplied and fitted. Automating an existing door runs £500 to £750 where the door suits it. All figures include VAT; full context in the 2026 price guide.

Which garage doors can be automated?

Roller doors are electric by default at almost any sensible specification. Sectionals automate naturally, and up-and-over doors on retractable gear take an operator well. Side-hinged pairs can be automated with dedicated leaf gear, at around £800 depending on what the opening needs. Not sure about your existing door? We answer that here.

Retrofit now or buy automated?

Adding electric operation at the same time as a new door typically adds £400 to £700 and is cheaper than retrofitting later at £500 to £750. If your current door is sound, a retrofit operator is a sensible upgrade; if the door is on its way out, put the money into an automated new door instead — we will give you both numbers at survey.

Safety, as standard.

Every operator we fit auto-reverses on obstruction and is force-tested at handover, and branded remote controls use rolling-code encryption rather than a fixed signal. You are left with a working, programmed and tested door before we leave — with a 5 year parts and labour guarantee behind it.

Where do you cover?
Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Newbury, Basingstoke, Henley, Maidenhead, Slough, Camberley, Oxford and surrounding villages across Berkshire, Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley. If you're within an hour of our base, we cover you.
What happens at the free survey?
We visit, measure the opening properly, talk through how you use the garage, and leave you with three written fitted prices — a budget, mid and premium option for the same opening. No obligation, no deposit taken on the day.
Do you offer finance?
Yes, through Ideal4Finance. Typical plans are 0% over 12 months on installs over £2,000.
How long does a typical garage door installation take?
A standard replacement (sectional or up-and-over) takes around 4-6 hours on a single visit. Roller doors with full automation can be 6-8 hours. Side-hinged with frame replacement is usually a full day.
Do you remove the old door?
Yes, every quote includes removal and ethical disposal of your existing door. We recycle the steel and aluminium where possible.
Can you automate my existing door?
Most door types, yes. We can automate existing up-and-over doors by fitting an electric operator, and on sectional and roller doors we replace or upgrade the motor operator. Side-hinged doors can be motorised too, typically around £800 depending on the gear your opening needs. Call us and we will confirm what is possible for your door.
