Sectional Garage Doors.

Sectional garage doors are built from horizontal panels hinged together that lift vertically and slide back along the garage ceiling. They open without swinging outward, so you can park right up to the door, and they deliver the strongest insulation and security of any common garage door type. Wolverine fits Hörmann, Garador, Ryterna and Teckentrup sectionals across the Thames Valley.

In short

A sectional garage door is made of horizontal panels hinged together that lift vertically and store flat against the garage ceiling. Because they lift straight up rather than tilting outward, they don't need driveway clearance, you can park right up to the door. They're also engineered for thermal performance, with double-skin foam-filled panels (typically 40-42mm) and full perimeter weather seals. Sectionals are ordered to the structural opening rather than to the old door, which our garage door sizes guide explains, and our 2026 price guide shows what a fitted sectional really costs.

Why choose this type

Why sectional garage doors make sense.

Maximum opening

Vertical operation means no swing-out, full use of the driveway right up to the garage face.

Insulation

Sandwich panels with PU foam core (40-42mm typical) deliver class-leading thermal and acoustic performance.

Security

Multi-point locking, lift-up resistance, and reinforced sections. Most carry police-preferred security ratings.

Design choice

Smooth, ribbed, woodgrain, micro-rib, planar, the broadest range of design panels of any door type.

Quiet operation

Soft-running rollers in steel tracks. With electric operation, sectional doors are remarkably quiet.

Headroom flexibility

Available in low-headroom and high-lift configurations to fit any garage geometry.

The detail

Sectional Garage Doors, properly explained.

Why sectionals are the reference garage door.

A sectional garage door rises vertically in hinged panels and parks flat under the ceiling, so you can pull the car right up to the door outside and use every inch of the drive. The standard insulated specification is 40 to 45mm foam-filled panels; Hörmann's LPU42, with 42mm panels, is the reference door most quotes in this class are built around, and we survey for it as standard.

How warm is an insulated sectional?

A well-insulated sectional achieves a U-value of 1.0 to 1.4 W/m²K — the best insulation of any standard garage door type, comparable to a good double-glazed window. Replacing a single-skin door at around 7.0 W/m²K cuts heat loss through the door by roughly 80%, which is why sectionals are the default for garages attached to the heated house. Details in our U-values guide.

Design choices, in pounds.

Smooth, ribbed, Georgian and panelled faces come in standard whites, non-standard RAL colours (+£100 to £200 on a single door) and woodgrain laminates such as Golden Oak and Rosewood (+£200 to £500). Windows in an insulated sectional add £600 to £900. Our Anthracite vs black guide settles the most common colour question we get.

Automation comes naturally.

Sectional panels rise vertically with no swing arc, so an operator simply drives the door along its tracks. Our operators start at £605 supplied and fitted; adding automation to a new door typically adds £400 to £700. See automated electric garage doors for operators and smart control.

FAQ

Common questions about sectional garage doors.

Where do you cover?
Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Newbury, Basingstoke, Henley, Maidenhead, Slough, Camberley, Oxford and surrounding villages across Berkshire, Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley. If you're within an hour of our base, we cover you.
What happens at the free survey?
We visit, measure the opening properly, talk through how you use the garage, and leave you with three written fitted prices — a budget, mid and premium option for the same opening. No obligation, no deposit taken on the day.
Do you offer finance?
Yes, through Ideal4Finance. Typical plans are 0% over 12 months on installs over £2,000.
How long does a typical garage door installation take?
A standard replacement (sectional or up-and-over) takes around 4-6 hours on a single visit. Roller doors with full automation can be 6-8 hours. Side-hinged with frame replacement is usually a full day.
Do you remove the old door?
Yes, every quote includes removal and ethical disposal of your existing door. We recycle the steel and aluminium where possible.
Can you automate my existing door?
Most door types, yes. We can automate existing up-and-over doors by fitting an electric operator, and on sectional and roller doors we replace or upgrade the motor operator. Side-hinged doors can be motorised too, typically around £800 depending on the gear your opening needs. Call us and we will confirm what is possible for your door.
